Arsenal legend Vieira eyed by Lyon as new boss after impressing at Nice so far

Ligue 1 rivals are already monitoring the former Manchester City coach as the 42-year-old has guided Nice to eighth in his first season.

And Lyon coach Bruno Genesio could be on the way out when his contract ends in June this year, despite hte French giants currently sitting in third place.

French website nicematin.com say Vieira is pondering his future after Nice president Jean-Pierre Rivere and general manager Julien Fournier announced their departure last week.

Ex-New York City manager Vieira's contract runs until 2021.

But he is thought to have a clause in his deal, allowing him to leave if Rivere and Fournier go.

Vieira was long ago earmarked as a potential manager after skippering Arsenal during his nine years under long-serving Arsene Wenger.

The midfield enforcer, famous for his shuddering battles with Manchester United counterpart Roy Keane, also shone for Milan and Juventus on his way to .

But the peak of Vieira's career was winning the World Cup with France in 1998 and the European Championships two years later.

After playing out his career with Manchester City, he patiently learnt his coaching trade at the Etihad.

He joined City's training and youth development team before becoming their reserves' boss and Elite Development Squad manager.

Vieira departed for the MLS in 2016, helping NYC improve in each season, from 17th to fourth to runners-up.

Now he could be set for just a single season with Nice – if they maintain their solid form and Genesio departs Lyon in the summer after four years in charge.
