MANCHESTER UNITED suffered another disappointing result after being held to a draw against Southampton at the weekend.
But their defence could have been much better had Jose Mourinho signed newly-crowned Uefa Player of the Year Virgil Van Dijk.

RYAN GIGGS wants United star Daniel James to take the pressure off Gareth Bale in the Wales national side.
According to Manchester Evening News, the Old Trafford veteran said: “They're playing and they're in good form, both are scoring.
“I think they're both looking forward to being involved in the game.
“Dan has got off to great start at Manchester United but he's also been great for us, especially with difficult circumstances in the summer.
“The pressure is always on Gareth but I want to bring that pressure off Gareth, we can't rely on him in every game because we've got other talented players in the squad.”

FANS have branded Roy Keane as “vile” for claiming Jon Walters went on TV “crying about his family” when he had recently lost a brother, his daughter was diagnosed with an illness and his wife had a miscarriage.

It prompted Walters to tweet a picture of him with his fist in a boxing glove, with the caption “insert face here.”

DECLAN RICE has claimed he is good enough to play for Manchester United.
But the 20-year-old has admitted that it is not the right time for him to leave West Ham.
The England international emerged as a target for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer during the summer window, but the Hammers did not want to lose him.
Rice told FourFourTwo: “Don't get me wrong, I think I've got the ability to play for a club like that.
“But it's all about timing and I don't think the timing is right for me at all. I've got so much to learn.”

MANCHESTER UNITED never targeted signing Virgil van Dijk because they had their sights on other players instead.
Reports have emerged claiming Jose Mourinho had decided not to chase the Dutch defender when he was in charge at Old Trafford despite his name being mentioned to him.
But SunSport understands United had never even highlighted Van Dijk as a potential target, believing he was always destined to leave Southampton for Liverpool.
Instead the club scouts and manager came up with Kalidou Koulibaly and Toby Alderweireld as players United should be going for in the transfer market.
Later, the club then followed up on a recommendation from then-boss Mourinho to chase Harry Maguire.

DANI OLMO has claimed his price-tag was too “high” this summer for the likes of Manchester United or Arsenal to sign him.
The 21-year-old was heavily linked with a move away from Dinamo Zagreb this summer.
Speaking to Croatian newspaper Sportske Novosti, he said: “I have nothing to hide. I wanted to leave Dinamo, I wanted to move and join a strong club in the five big leagues.
“I thought this summer was the best time to leave. Such separation would have been best for the player and club, it's when you can get the best transfer.
“I think this price is too high. Not because I think I'm worth less, but because I play in the Croatian league, and the foreign clubs pay attention to this.
“Realistically, it's difficult for a player in the Croatian league to reach this price.”
It was reported that Dinamo Zagreb turned down an offer of £23.5million from United as it was too low.
