Video shows moment hungry wolf snatches pet dog from home leaving locals scared

A video shows the moment where a wild wolf snatches and runs off with a small pet dog in a remote Russian town.

The wild animal is seen to chases the miniature crossbreed called Bonya before calmly walking away with it gripped in its mouth.

Parents have now been left scared for their children in the snowy town of Olengorsk, in the Arctic Circle.

A pug was also ripped apart by a wild wolf in the same town with reports of the predators now stalking a school nearby.

Officials have now ordered hunters close to the town to kill the pack of wolves that have brought terror to the small town.

Mum-of-two Yulia Mekhnina, 35, said: "Our dog was killed by a wolf.

“Today it also killed a pug. We found the remains of our dog about 50 metres (165ft) from the railway track, in the park.

“What if those were children? What do we have to do now?”

Another local woman Lesya Gennadyeva posted: “What a nightmare.

“The wolf was actually hunting in the town, something needs to be done urgently.

“There is a kindergarten there. God forbid, what if this was a child in its teeth. I am terrified to imagine.”

Yulia's husband, Dmitry, followed the footprints that the wolf left in the snow and quickly it was not alone.

He said: “My wife said she heard Bonya yelp – the wolf must have broken her neck.

“In the video you can see the wolf carrying my dog, dead already. This is the only consolation – she didn't suffer for too long.”

He continued: “There were two wolves, one got my dog, and the other one tried to take it.

“I found Bonya’s remains.

“There was no head and paws, just her upper body, and ribs. Apparently, they didn’t finish eating her.

“I went home to pick up a box to collect Bonya’s remains to bury her, but when I got back 15-20 minutes later, these were gone.

“They must have eaten her.

“Bonya was a mix of Pekingese and a no-breed dog. She was so lovely, so cute, everyone loved her.

“She was 11 years old, but she was very active, not old at all.”

A lack of prey for wolves meant they were coming into towns, he said.

The local mayor Oleg Samarsky has confirmed that hunters have been sent out to kill the wolves who pose a threat to the Arctic town.
