Tech giants Elon Musk and Mark Zuckerberg agree to hold ‘cage fight’

51-year-old Mr Musk, who admits that he “almost never works out, except for picking up my kids and throwing them in the air”, challenged Mr Zuckerberg by saying tweeting that he is “up for a cage fight”.

Perhaps to Mr Musk’s regret, Mr Zuckerberg took to one of his own platforms, Instagram, and posted to his story a screenshot of Mr Musk’s tweet, captioning it with “Send me Location”.

Unlike his Twitter counterpart, Mr Zuckerberg, 39, is well known for being trained in mixed martial arts (MMA) and has recently won jiu-jitsu tournaments.

Since Mr Musk posted the initial tweet, social media has gone into a frenzy, and in particular Twitter has become a meme haven for those speculating what sort of moves each tech boss will deploy on one another.

To many people’s surprise, Mr Musk revealed one of his moves, which he calls “The Walrus”, where he just “lies on top of (his) opponent and does nothing”.

While he may seem to be joking, it seems that he is too far in now to back out of such a fight, with fans already taking sides on social media, backing who they think will win.

Some have even gone so far as to call for an undercard fight between two other billionaires, Amazon’s Jezz Bezos, and Microsoft’s Bill Gates.

But this “cage fight” comes at a time when Mr Musk is preparing for another battle against Mr Zuckerberg.

In recent months, there has been wide speculation that Meta is planning are coup to take on Twitter, by releasing their own text-based social network, which is different to its current image-sharing app, Instagram, and its other social network site, Facebook.

And in the past few weeks, the BBC confirmed this speculation, with a Meta spokesperson saying that the new platform designed to take on Twitter is in development.

And while Meta has not formally announced a release date for their new app, their Chief Product Officer, Chris Cox, has said that coding was well underway on the platform, with the new app having the working title of P92.

So, as both tech giants prepare for combat in the “cage”, they are also preparing for another just as equally important to them, in the App Store.
