Chinese smartphone maker Oppo has revealed its hidden selfie camera technology which sits underneath the screen and doesn’t require a notch or hole.
The design is intended to save space on the screen and was revealed at Mobile World Congress in Shaghai today.
The so-called ‘under-display’ selfie camera is concealed entirely behind the phone’s screen, with no need for any notches or hole-punches, as seen in Samsung and Honor devices.

Current phones rely on notches or hole-punches, seen in Samsung and Honor devices., to have house selfie cameras.
Oppo’s tech utilises an enhanced translucent panel combined with processing algorithms to take photos.
Chinese handset makers Oppo and Xiaomi have launched into an early battle over the technology, tweeting videos of prototypes of their technology.
It was first touted earlier this month but details were scarce at the time.
Oppo has now addressed this head-on, stating it utilises an enhanced translucent panel combined with processing algorithms to take photos.
It was modelled an an unnamed device and not on a modified version of its Reno range.
‘The algorithms behind our USC technology showcased at £MWC19 include haze removal, HDR and white balance resulting in a bezel-less phone, yet with a selfie camera that rivals current smartphones in the market today,’ the company tweeted.
Tech giants across the board have been looking into fresh ways of increasing display space without necessarily expanding the physical size of handsets, mostly reducing bezel border areas around phones and moving around the selfie camera.
Chinese rival Xiaomi launched a challenge to Oppo over the technology, tweeting videos of prototypes of their technology earlier this month.
Oppo was first to show off its take on the invisible concept, before Xiaomi swiftly followed suit, though it is not entirely clear how either of the innovations work.
Apple set the notch trend with the iPhone X in 2017, but other device makers have since tinkered with pinhole design.
OnePlus, a separate firm, adopted a different tact and invented the pop-up camera.
