Samsung has finally taken the wraps off its long-rumored new handsets, the Galaxy Fold and Galaxy S10.

The firm unveiled its radical flexible Fold device, which transitions from a 4.6-inch handset to a 7.3-inch mini-tablet, during the Unpacked Event at San Francisco’s Bill Graham Civic Auditorium today.

Samsung also introduced the 6.1-inch Galaxy S10 and 6.4-inch S10+, which it says boast the ‘most color-accurate display ever on a mobile device,’ along with the 5.8-inch Galaxy S10e.

The unveiling event confirmed many of the rumors that have been circulating in the tech world over the last year, revealing the Galaxy S10 lineup will in fact feature an ‘Infinity O’ – a laser-cut ‘hole punch’ in the screen.

In an unusual move, Samsung also revealed its new partnership with Instagram to bring a social media-specific camera feature to its S10 lineup: Instagram Mode.

Samsung’s Senior VP of Product Marketing Justin Denison took to the stage Wednesday morning in San Francisco to introduce the latest products, starting with the Galaxy Fold.

‘Ten years after the first Galaxy, we didn’t just change the shape of the phone, we changed the shape of tomorrow,’ Denison said.

The new folding device relies on a hinge that runs right down the middle of its flexible display.

It will come in four ‘galactic’ colors, Samsung says: Cosmic Black, Martian Green, Astro Blue, and Space Silver.

The hinge itself will be customizable by color too, and app-continuity will allow you to switch from a closed display to open without losing your place.

And, the device will have six cameras – or, a ‘camera for every angle.’

Three cameras are positioned on the back, two on the inside, and one on the front.

But, the phone won’t be cheap. Samsung says the Galaxy Fold will launch April 26 at an eye-watering $1,980.

‘As you saw, the Galaxy Fold is a device unlike any that’s come before it,’ Denison continued.

‘At Samsung, we’re driven to invent meaningful breakthroughs. Our screens are the windows to our worlds.’

‘But despite the progress we’ve made, the size of our screen is limited by the size of our devices,’ Denison says.

‘With the Galaxy Fold, we’re creating a new dimension for your phone and your life.

‘With the Galaxy Fold, you get a powerful smartphone and a tablet in a single 4.6-inch display.’

According to the firm, this setup makes the Galaxy Fold ‘compact and perfectly portable.’

‘We left no stone unturned,’ Denison said. ‘One of the biggest challenges was building the backbone of the device, so we invented a sophisticated hinge system.’

Allows it to open naturally and the beauty is you don’t even see it. The gears are hidden, giving it a seamless elegant look.’

The firm then moved on to its Galaxy S10 lineup, which it says is ‘a triumph of Samsung innovation.’

Samsung also introduced the 6.1-inch Galaxy S10 and 6.4-inch S10+, which it says boast the ‘most color-accurate display ever on a mobile device,’ along with the 5.8-inch Galaxy S10e

The Galaxy S10 and S10+ are set to launch at $899.99 and $999.99, respectively, in a slew of colors, including Prism White, Prism Black, Prism Green, Prism Blue, Canary Yellow and Flamingo Pink.

They will also be available in the premium colors, Ceramic Black and Ceramic White.

‘Sensors are floating in a sea of individually placed pixels,’ said Suzanne De Silva, Director of Product Marketing.

‘The result is a revolutionary display that maximizes your viewing experience and minimizes the distractions.’

The display makes up the entire front of the phone, covering it ‘from side to side.’

‘The sensors on the front camera have been seamlessly integrated right into the display itself,’ De Silva said.

‘This is a truly next-generation cinematic experience, with the world’s first Dynamic AMOLED display.’

The unveiling event confirmed many of the rumors that have been circulating in the tech world over the last year, revealing the Galaxy S10 lineup will in fact feature an ‘Infinity O’ – a laser-cut ‘hole punch’ in the screen

‘It’s the most color accurate display ever on a mobile device,’ De Silva said.

‘This display also supports HDR 10+, which means you can enjoy your favorite content in stunning state-of-the-art detail, just like it was intended to be seen.

‘S10 uses dynamic tone-mapping so that even the smallest details are clear.’

The devices also use an ultrasonic fingerprint scanner, which maps individual fingerprints using ultrasonic waves.

According to the firm, ultrasonic scanning will allow the system to work in various weather conditions, unlike optical scanning.

This ‘makes unlocking your phone easier than ever,’ De Silva said.

The Galaxy S10 devices are also equipped with an ‘anti-spoofing algorithm’ to identify fake fingerprints in both 2D and 3D.

According to the firm, it ‘vault-like security’ to keep your data safe.

It wasn’t all about smartphones at the Unpacked event. Samsung also lifted the lid on its new Galaxy Watch Active, Galaxy Fit, and and Galaxy Buds (pictured above)

Samsung also introduced the new Instagram Mode, which will be available on its S10 devices.

Instagram CEO Adam Mosseri took to the stage to demonstrate how S10 owners will be able to access Instagram features directly from the camera itself.

This includes Stories, Stickers, music, and other tools that can be shared to the social media site; you’ll even be able to add hashtags.

‘S10 will be the best way to share on Instagram,’ Mosseri said.

The firm’s new earbuds are equipped with adaptive dual microphones, which have ‘smart’ capabilities to adapt to the noise around you.

‘When it’s quiet, it captures the sound of your voice. When it’s loud, the buds switch to the inner mic to pic up your voice,’ said Drew Blackard, Senior Director of Product Marketing.

The firm’s new earbuds are equipped with adaptive dual microphones, which have ‘smart’ capabilities to adapt to the noises around you. They will become available on March 8 for $129, in yellow, black and white

The earbuds are 30 percent smaller than their predecessors, but contain a high-efficiency chipset that will allow for up to 6 hours of streaming on a single charge, or 5 hours of call time.

Samsung’s Galaxy Buds will also come with Bixby capability, so you can control them with your voice. This will also allow you to control your phone without having to take it out of your pocket.

They will become available on March 8 for $129, in yellow, black and white.

The new Galaxy Watch Active and Galaxy Fit wearables will also launch March 8, at $199 and $99, respectively.

Both devices are water-resistant, and Samsung says the Fit is ‘about as light as a single strawberry.’

The Watch Active features a touchscreen AMOLED display with up to 60,000 watch faces to choose from.

‘Both can track your sleep, including REM and deep sleep, giving more insight into sleep than ever before,’ Blackard said.

‘Both also Include heart rate monitors,’ and can provide ‘essential info about your health at a single glance.

With a long-lasting battery, Samsung says its wearables can last up to a week on a single charge.
