A man who suffered from Covid claims to have discovered that his penis had shrunk by an inch – and is worried that his size might never recover.

Blokes can often feel insecure about the size of their manhood, with one Twitter user confessing a belief that long Covid had caused him to suffer a similar problem last year.

Common symptoms of Covid have occasionally changed throughout the ongoing pandemic, but are listed on the NHS website as a high temperature, a new continuous cough, and a loss or change to a person’s sense of taste or smell.

And, urologists have claimed that penis size can also shrink due to damage to blood vessels; a University College London study looked at 3400 people who had caught Covid, and found that a rare few of the 200 who reported having long Covid listed a smaller penis as a symptom.

Now, an anonymous male wrote in to the ‘How to Do It’ sexual advice podcast, adding a reduction in penis size to his list, explaining that he had been shocked to find the size of his manhood had changed after falling ill with the virus.

“I'm a heterosexual man in my 30s. In July of last year I contracted Covid and was very sick,” he began.

“When I got out of the hospital, I had some erectile dysfunction issues. Those gradually got better with some medical attention, but I seem to be left with a lasting problem.

“My penis has shrunk. Before I got sick, I was above average, not huge, but definitely bigger than normal. Now I've lost about an inch-and-a-half and become decidedly less than average.”

The man speculated on the causes, and noted: “My doctors seem to think it's likely permanent.”

“It shouldn't really matter, but it has had a profound impact on my self confidence in my abilities in bed.”

Having read the worried man’s letter, the podcast’s hosts invited experts on to give their opinion on his situation, and had some reassuring news.

Charles Welliver, the Director of Men’s Health and Albany Urology College, agreed that so-called ‘Covid d***’ was an observable problem.

“You can connect these dots actually,” the doctor explained, noting that it is possible for men to suffer from prolonged erections as well as erectile dysfunction because of vascular damage after suffering from Covid.”

But, Charles also claimed that there are plenty of treatments available for erectile dysfunction issues that have resulted in shrinkage.

“More recently we’ve started looking at different kinds of stretching devices or traction devices,” he said.

“And there’s other ones called vacuum erection devices that have been used for ED forever, which also has some potential benefit there too."

And, exploring the issue further, urologist Ashley G Winter reassured that there was no evidence that so-called “Covid d***” could be transmitted through sex.

However, Ashley did admit that scientists had discovered evidence of weakened testicular function after a Covid infection.

“It does appear, at least with the testicles, that the negative effect is not permanent,” she stressed.
