Boffins want to bring back extinct trees in a Jurassic Park-style project.
It comes as 40% of plant species are at risk of disappearing – endangering our climate, other species and human welfare.
Dr Alex Davey, of the Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh, said: “Films such as Jurassic Park have popularised the concept of reviving animals that are long extinct but until recently little attention had been given to the many species of plants that have been lost.
"Ultimately, all life on Earth depends on plants, but climate change, invasive species and land-use changes are accelerating the rate of extinction.

“You never know how important these plants could be – including possibly holding the cure for diseases like cancer.”
While dino DNA to resurrect the likes of T-Rex still eludes scientists, seeds are preserved at centres around the globe.
