‘I used a popular TikTok hack to get fake freckles but was left scarred’

A woman who used a TikTok hack to try and get fake freckles has been left temporarily blinded and scarred.

Tilly Whitfield, from Australia, has explained how a TikTok beauty trend left her with severe injuries and scars all over her face.

In several videos on the social media platform, Mrs Whitfield could be seen wearing a blue clay mask.

Originally she said it was to cover up redness, but she has now admitted it was because of an incident she sustained trying to give herself fake freckles.

She has now explained what she did and what happened to cause her such great discomfort.

Speaking to the New York Times, Ms Whitfield said she attempted the DIY treatment which left her with burns on her cheeks and temporary blindness.

She explained that she saw a TikTok video where a beauty fan used a sewing needle to prick her skin with ink which resulted in freckles that allegedly lasted six months.

Following this user’s success, Ms Whitfield decided to give it a try also and ordered some brown tattoo ink on eBay.

Soon after she made her own attempt, disaster struck.

It turned out the ink she ordered had high levels of lead, an extremely dangerous and toxic compound.

She explained: “It didn’t hurt at all, so I didn’t think I should stop.”

After she sustained injuries to her space, she spent around £8,500 to try and find a solution to her painful scarring, but with little success.

After finding no solutions, she posted images to her social media page to show her fans what had happened to her.

Ms Whitfield said: “That main reason has been that I’m stupid, and, yeah, I agree.”

She wrote on Instagram: “For those asking why I have my blue clay face mask on continuously throughout the show this is what my face looked like a week prior to entering the house, hence why I always have makeup on and my skin is always covered.

“This is the result of attempting to remove scarring I inflicted on myself trying to replicate an at-home beauty procedure I saw on a TikTok video two months before Big Brother.”

She said she was also temporarily blinded in one eye thanks to her decision.

Ms Whitfield added: “Please please don’t try any DIY or at-home beauty procedures.

“I ended up in hospital with temporary loss of vision in my eye due to swelling and was very sick from the infection, not to mention my face was somewhat unrecognisable.

“Leave it to the professionals.”
