End of the world: ‘Coronavirus Prophet’ bizarrely claims COVID-19 is a ‘biblical plague’

The coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2) has killed more than 11,000 people and infected more than 265,000 since November. The virus appeared without warning in China, prompting many to speculate whether there is something sinister behind its arrival.

Paul Begley, a Christian evangelist and preacher from West Lafayette in Indiana, US, believes the coronavirus has links to the Bible.

Speaking during an online broadcast, the preacher bizarrely claimed the prophetic signs of the end times are unfolding before us.

Pastor Begley said: “I want to read from Revelation Chapter 6. Let’s focus on the word of God.

“We should not be shocked by this coronavirus pandemic plague.

“You know, some would say, this is a plague of biblical proportions and I’m even being called now in the media the Coronavirus Prophet.

“But the truth is this was prophesied. The Pale Horseman of the Apocalypse would gallop.

“And even Jesus said there would be pestilence, famines, pestilence and earthquakes in diverse places.

“And he said that is just the beginning of the sorrows but let’s read.”

The firebrand preacher then read scripture from the Bible’s Book of Revelation.

The Book of Revelation, penned by John the Apostle, contains prophetic descriptions of the end times.

The visions describe a series of events and calamities that will precede the Second Coming of Jesus Christ.

Revelation 6:8 reads: “And I saw when the Lamb opened one of the seals, and I heard, as it were the noise of thunder, one of the four beasts saying, Come and see.”

The passage goes on to describe four horsemen who Pastor Begley represent the Antichrist, War, Economy and Plague or Pestilence.

The preacher then read out descriptions of natural disasters and calamities that he believes will fall on humanity.

However, pastor Begley noted these events are not unfolding just yet.

He said: “Folks, we are not quite there yet but we are inching ever close.”

The coronavirus first appeared in China’s Hubei Province last November.

Although the pathogen was originally traced back to a wet market in Wuhan City, the exact origin of SARS-CoV-2 remains unknown.

But there is nothing biblical about the pandemic, and SARS-CoV-2 belongs to a family of viruses known since the 1960s.

Two different coronavirus strains have already caused health scares in the past.

Between 2002 and 2003, some 8,000 people were infected with Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome coronavirus (SARS-CoV).

Then in 2012, the Middle East Respiratory Syndrome coronavirus (MERS-CoV) was discovered.
