Bloke opens locked safe washed up on beach – you’ll never guess what’s inside

A beachcomber got more than he bargained for when he stumbled upon a mysteriously locked safe in the United States.

Jace Tunnell was exploring a beach near Port Aransas, Texas, when he came across something that really wasn't meant to be there.

He was at the time looking for stranded and nesting sea turtles – but found a locked safe.

And having got help to load it into his car, as it was too heavy to lift by himself, he has now opened it.

He said: “I was excited that I might have found some secret documents, gold bars, or maybe some cash.

“I did roll the safe around end on end and didn't hear anything, so I thought it might be empty.

“It took about an hour to open using crowbars, sledgehammers, and an electric metal cutting saw.

“There was something inside and it was quite exciting to see something sitting in the safe as we slowly opened the door away from the safe."

But, it was not quite the treasure he was expecting.

Jace revealed: “Unfortunately, it was only a drying packet of silica gel beads – my reaction was laughter.”

How the safe ended up on the beach is unknown, and who it originally belong to is also unclear.

However, Jace has some theories about the origins of thee not-so-exciting locked safe.

And they are definitely more exciting than what was actually in the safe.

“It could have been from a sinking ship, a hurricane that washed away a house, or a person dumping the safe into the river that then washed it into the ocean,” he said.

“We find items washing up on our shores from all over the world because of the way the ocean currents work.

“In the Gulf of Mexico we have a loop current that comes up around the Yucatan Peninsula in Mexico and around Cuba before it goes back around the east coast of Florida.

“This creates eddies that push whatever is in the loop current up on our shores in Texas. So this safe could have come from anywhere.

“The ocean is exciting and mysterious for so many reasons, including the opportunity to find a safe floating by.”
