The Walking Dead star Scott Wilson dies, aged 76

The Walking Dead actor Scott Wilson has passed away at the age of 76.

Wilson played Maggie Greene’s father Hershel on the AMC drama for two and a half seasons. He was introduced at the start of the second season, and left midway in season four.

TMZ is reporting that the star died of leukemia.

New Walking Dead showrunner announced earlier this weekend at New York Comic-Con (via Entertainment Weekly) that the star would be reprising the role during the upcoming ninth season of the show, alongside Sonequa Martin-Green who plays Sasha Williams.

Michael Cudlitz, aka Abraham Ford, tweeted: “Rest easy my friend…… rest easy.”

Khary Payton, who stars as Ezekiel, wrote: “The first time I met Scott Wilson, he gave me a big hug and said that this thing I had become apart of… was a family. He said I had a responsibility to take care of it.

“I have tried very hard to do that, sir. & I will continue. I promise. See you on the other side, my friend.”

The official Walking Dead Twitter account also paid tribute to the actor, posting: “We are deeply saddened to report that Scott Wilson, the incredible actor who played Hershel on #TheWalkingDead, has passed away at the age of 76.

“Our thoughts are with his family and friends. Rest in paradise, Scott. We love you!”

Wilson also starred in TV shows including The OA, Bosch, and Damien, and films such as 1974’s The Great Gatsby, In the Heat of the Night, Pearl Harbor, and Junebug.
