2020 may not be the best year for upbeat club music, but that hasn’t stopped Major Lazer and Mr Eazi from teaming up on a new track for the nightlife crowd. The two have recruited Nicki Minaj and K4mo for a new song to keep you up all night, “Oh My Gawd.”
According to HotNewHipHop, the song was in the making for two years before finally being released. Mr Eazi says “Oh My Gawd” began with an intro from fellow Nigerian musician K4mo before Diplo‘s Major Lazer and Minaj joined the project. The poppy song follows Mr Eazi’s earlier release this summer, One Day You Will Understand, a four-track project featuring Afropop tunes released through his emPawa Africa mentorship program.
Minaj hasn’t released much music of her own this year, but she’s been busy in recent months with a slate of features. This summer she appeared on tracks from Ty Dolla $ign and A$AP Ferg and Doja Cat. Rumors also swirled in June that the rapper might be releasing an album with Lil Wayne.
Diplo meanwhile made an appearance earlier this year on Fortnite‘s Party Royale Series, following the likes of Travis Scott. Major Lazer also released a remix to The Weeknd’s hit single “Blinding Lights” back in April and Megan Thee Stallion’s popular “Savage” in May (before Beyoncé gave her spin on the song that same month).
