Sticky Carpet

Early this year much loved Portland four-piece The Dandy Warhols released their 10th album, Why You So Crazy. It's also 25 years since founding members Courtney Taylor-Taylor and Peter Holmstrom first came together in Oregon, recruiting keyboardist Zia McCabe in time for their debut, self-titled album. Along with drummer Brent DeBoer, who joined the band in 1998, they're now heading back to Australia to celebrate the band's 25th anniversary, playing at Melbourne's Forum Theatre on November 3 and Sydney's Enmore Theatre on November 6.

Frequent visitors here, the Dandy Warhols' hugely popular breakthrough album Thirteen Tales From Urban Bohemia (2000) featured the singles Bohemian Like You and Get Off and they've continued to tour, record and stay together while each pursuing other creative outlets, as well as motherhood in McCabe's case. McCabe is also a DJ and plays with country band Brush Prairie.

Taylor-Taylor released a novel in 2009 with cartoonist and illustrator Jim Rugg called One Model Nation, while Holmstrom also plays with psych-rock outfit Pete International Airport, which has over the years featured members of other bands including the Brian Jonestown Massacre, who along with the Dandy Warhols were the subject of Ondi Timoner's fascinating documentary film Dig!, which took place over seven years and was released in 2004. DeBoer, who's lived in Melbourne with his wife and children for several years, also plays drums in the band Immigrant Union.

Tickets for the Dandy Warhols' 25th anniversary tour are on on sale from 9am on June 12 and pre-sale tickets are available from today. For more information, go to sbmpresents.com

★★★½
Sydney duo Polish Club's follow up to their 2017 ARIA nominated album Alright Already was always going to take bold steps in new directions, after all singer/guitarist David Novak and drummer John-Henry Pajak have been playing together for five years and thrive on testing themselves. Those five years have been a hive of activity; touring and recording and here it pays off. There's no shortage of power from this pair and they've meshed their natural rock instincts on Iguana with fresh creativity, loads of energy and some enormously fat grooves, thanks partly to bass player and producer Wade Keighran.
