Jimmy Barnes is hitting the road from mid September in what will be his biggest solo tour in years. Barnes, who releases his new album My Criminal Record on May 31, will bring his Shutting Down Your Town tour to fans across the country on the back of his first rock album in a decade. Australia's most well known rocker, who is now an award winning writer following the success of his brutally honest memoirs Working Class Boy and Working Cass Man, will be supported by Jet for the majority of these shows and by Fremantle's Eskimo Joe.

"It's been ten years since I made an original rock record and I can't wait to get out there and play these songs, along with all the old favourites, to a live audience. It's going to be great," Barnes said this week, ahead of ticket sales opening to the general public on May 31. Members of Jimmy's mailing list will get access to pre-sale tickets from Wednesday, May 29.

This tour, which begins at Mackay's Entertainment Centre in Queensland on September 18, will be Barnsey's first headline show at Sydney's Hordern Pavilion since the late 1980's and his first ever headline appearance at Melbourne's Margaret Court Arena and Brisbane's Riverstage.

Troy Cassar-Daley, who penned the track Shutting Down Your Town after reading Working Class Boy, will also be appearing on stage with Jimmy at Pola Park in Tullamore on Saturday, November 2. For all tour dates and ticket information go to jimmybarnes.com

Three years since their last album (IV) Vancouver's Black Mountain have roared out of the studio, delivering a mighty slab of psychedelic rock to warm the heart and soul. Founding member Stephen McBean's lost none of his passion for heavy guitars and Horns Arising brings a similar verve early on to Rollercoaster from their outstanding 2010 album Wilderness Heart, only bigger, more fully realised and yes, a bit tougher too. There have been changes at base camp too with hypnotic vocalist Amber Webber gone and guests brought in, but McBean's hands are firmly on the steering wheel. Get in, buckle up.
