When Stephen Fry revealed his prostate cancer diagnosis earlier this year, there was an outpouring of concern for the star.
In a personal YouTube video to camera, Fry explained that he’d been successfully treated by doctors and was recovering well at home.
“Cancer, you know? In the end, that’s just a word that rings in your head,” he said in the video.
“I went around saying to myself, ‘I’ve got cancer, good heavens, Stephen, you’re not the sort of person who gets cancer’. I know it’s an old cliché, but you don’t think it’s going to happen to you.”
Now, celebrating his 61st birthday today (August 24), Fry admitted that he’s “happy to still be here”.
Taking to Twitter, he wrote: “Thank you all for your VERY kind birthday wishes. Happy still to be here to attain another prime number – 61.
“Balloons arising from my twitter page like bubbles from a bath and all is well.”
Glad to hear it, Stephen!
His followers were quick to congratulate the national treasure and replied with some enthusiastic comments.
“Keep inspiring, you are a wonderful human being with wonderful human understanding nay empathy,” wrote one follower.
“Happy birthday, Stephen. You’ve invigorated the curiosity in me for so many things. I will always be indebted to you for that,” said another.
“Thank you for being you, and such a bloody icon in this insane and wonderful world,” added a third.
Happy birthday, Stephen. Here’s to another 61 years!
