Rihanna was serious when she sang B***h Better Have My Money because the popstar has been named the richest woman in music, beating the likes of Beyonce and Madonna.
The 31-year-old is estimated to have earned an eye-watering net worth of $600 million (£472 million), amassed through her music catalogue, touring and more recently, her lucrative Fenty Beauty empire.
According to Forbes, Rihanna’s wealth has surpassed the likes of Madonna who has reportedly amassed a fortune of $570 million (£448 million), Celine Dion with $450 million (£350 million) and Beyonce, who’s estimated to be worth $400 million (£314 million).
Just last month, Rihanna discussed her sizeable fortune and said that she works out of passion rather than a desire to be rich.
Speaking to The New York Times, RiRi said: ‘Money is happening along the way, but I’m working out of what I love to do, what I’m passionate about.’
Rihanna’s position as the richest woman in music may come as a surprise as she’s been less active on the charts in recent years.
The Work singer released her last studio album, Anti, back in January 2016 and has only featured on a handful of collaborations since, including Wild Thoughts with DJ Khaled and Bryson Tiller and Kendrick Lamar’s single Loyalty, which won the Grammy for best rap/sung performance in 2018.
But it’s likely Rihanna’s fortune has enjoyed its biggest boost from her fashion and beauty ventures.
In 2017, the Bajan singer launched her Fenty Beauty brand which immediately won applause for its diverse range of foundation shades, appealing to almost every woman.
Earlier this year, LVMH Moet Hennessy Louis Vuitton – the luxury fashion company which owns Fenty Beauty – reported that the cosmetics brand had raked in €500 million in 2018.
WWD previously reported that RiRi was likely paid around $10 million for the beauty deal up front.
The popstar also runs the Savage x Fenty lingerie brand.
Rihanna’s business portfolio will only keep growing as she has just launched her new fashion label, Fenty. She’s now the first black female designer to release a clothing range with LVMH.
But what fans are awaiting the most is the release of Rihanna’s anticipated ninth studio album, which she recently said may be titled R9 although she’s yet to announce a release date.
