Pink Floyd Live At Pompeii concert released for one day only – WATCH

Last week, Pink Floyd announced they would join the YouTube Film Festival with a series of concerts. Every Friday at 5pm BST, the band will share a film of one of their classic shows for fans in lockdown to enjoy. It was 1994’s PULSE that kicked things off a week ago.

And now Pink Floyd Live at Pompeii is this week’s instalment.

Filmed in 1972, the concert movie saw the band perform without an audience in the Roman amphitheatre of Pompeii.

This is the 2016 re-edited version which features in The Early Years 1965-1972 box set.

The concert will be available as part of the YouTube Film Festival for 24 hours only from 5pm BST today.

While next week Pink Floyd’s 1970 KQED concert shot in San Francisco will air.

Pink Floyd Live at Pompeii was shot in and around the Roman amphitheatre over four days back in October 1971.

Director Adrian Maben had visited Pompeii’s amphitheatre and thought that the “silence and natural ambient sounds” would be a great spot for Pink Floyd to perform.

The filmmaker contacted Professor Carputi of the University of Naples to see what he could do.

And lucky for Maben, the academic was a Pink Floyd fan, who persuades the authorities to close the amphitheatre for six days so the concert film could be shot.

The 2016 version which airs later today on YouTube includes the following songs.

Careful With That Axe, Eugene, A Saucerful of Secrets and One of These Days.

Also Set the Controls for the Heart of the Sun and Echoes.
