AceShowbiz –Olivia Rodrigo‘s new breakup song “Vampire” isn’t about her ex Adam Faze. After fans speculated that the Grammy winner was shading the producer on the newly-released single, a source close to the singer quickly shut down the chatter.
“The song isn’t about Adam Faze,” the insider told PEOPLE. The source, however, didn’t offer more details about the tune.
“Vampire” arrived on Friday, June 30 along with its visuals. The MV kicks off with Olivia serenading about a toxic relationship at night time on a bed of grass. She clutches a mic and wears a beautiful white mini dress as she sings, “The way you sold me for parts/ As you sunk your teeth into me/ Blood sucker, famef**ker/ bleeding me dry like a goddamn vampire.”
Right after the chorus, it’s actually revealed that she’s on a stage that eventually bursts into flames. The song, meanwhile, takes a swift turn as it progresses to a more up-beat direction.
Olivia herself has explained that “Vampire” is about a toxic relationship that can drain energy from the rest of your life. “I was upset about a certain situation and went to the studio alone and sat down at the grand piano, and the chords and melody and lyrics just poured out of me – almost like an out-of-body experience,” she shared.
“It’s a song about feeling confused and hurt, and at first I thought it was meant to be a piano ballad. But when [Daniel Nigro] and I started working on it, we juxtaposed the lyrics with these big drums and crazy tempo changes,” the musician continued. “So now it’s like a heartbreak song you can dance to.”
As for Olivia and Adam’s romance, it fizzled out in February 2022. The now-exes first went public with their relationship in June 2021, attending the “Space Jam: A New Legacy” premiere together.
