After the wife of Jay-Z removes ‘Milkshake’ sample from her track ‘Energy’ off her new album ‘Renaissance’, her fans, who are also known as Beyhives, are coming at Kelis with one of them calling her ‘cry baby.’
AceShowbiz –Kelis previously made headlines after she called out Beyonce Knowles for sampling her song “Milkshake” for a track off her new album “Renaissance”. After Bey eventually removed Kelis’ song sample on “Energy”, Bey’s fans quickly came at Kelis.
“You happy Beyonce took that sample off?? Cry baby,” one Beyhive wrote in an Instagram comment. Kelis caught wind of it and responded, “Yes I am actually. Lol nobody cried.” Another fan insinuated that Kelis should be grateful that her song was used on Beyonce’s album. “and that’s why you are you and thank God I am me,” Kelis clapped back at the person.
A comment read, “Sample got removed like you wanted so back to BBQ sauce you go.” To the comment, Kelis wrote back, “oh absolutely lol #winning.”
Kelis also responded to a Beyonce fan who sarcastically thanked her for promoting the star’s new album. “I mean if this is promotion then that speaks to the quality of the demographic. And she needs no promo from me, she has Satan lol,” she said, before clarifying, “That was a joke, lol a good one. Buy a joke none the less lol.”
Upon reading the whole back-and-forth, some Internet users clowned Kelis. “She literally got too much time on her hands and it shows,” a person said. Another user wrote, “She removed herself from the music industry years ago. She did so for reasons like this. We can both support her and Beyonce at the same time.”
Some others, meanwhile, criticized Beyhives for “bullying” Kelis. “Y’all too old to be bullying folks…for free at that,” someone said. “Wow, that’s so unnecessary. They need to leave her alone,” one other added. Echoing the sentiment, one user wrote, “Leave this lady alone chile.”
Earlier this week, it was reported that Beyonce removed the “Milkshake” sample from her new track “Energy” on Apple Music and Tidal. However, the sample is reportedly still included in the lyric video of the song that was dropped on YouTube on July 28.
The decision was made after Kelis dissed Beyonce in an Instagram comment for sampling her song without her permission. “My mind is blown too because the level of disrespect and utter ignorance of all 3 parties involved is astounding. I heard about this the same way everyone else did,” she argued.
She further called out the wife of Jay-Z in an Instagram video. “I just heard the record everyone is saying has my sample . But it’s beyond this song at this point . This was a TRIGGER for me . Milkshake alone is one of the most licensed records of our generation,” she wrote in the caption. “I am a creator , I’m an innovator, I have done more then left my mark on an era of music and style that will go down in history.”
Kelis also called out Pharrell Williams who wrote and produced “Milkshake” with his The Neptunes producing partner Chad Hugo. She labeled him “very petty” for not reaching out to her after an interpolation of her smash single. Kelis later added, “I have the right to be frustrated. Why? Because no one had the human decency to call and be like, ‘Yo, would like to use your record.’ “
