Glastonbury confirms Stormzy as first 2019 headliner

It’s the news that will have all music festival fans itching to pull on their wellies and set up camp in a muddy field all over again: Glastonbury 2019 has confirmed its first headliner.

Earlier today, rumours started swirling that Stormzy would be the festival’s first announced headliner when keen-eyed Glasto fans started sharing a photo that seemingly confirmed the news. Fortunately the organisers didn’t keep us guessing for too long, later setting the record straight by making the announcement themselves.

“We’re delighted to announce that Stormzy is confirmed as the first headliner for Glastonbury 2019,” the official Twitter account confirmed on Thursday (November 15). “The multi award-winning British MC will headline the Pyramid Stage on Friday, June 28th.”

Emily Eavis also confirmed the headline act in a post on the festival’s website, saying: “Very happy to confirm Stormzy as our first headliner for next year.

“He’s one of the most exciting British artists to come along in years and after seeing him play here in 2017 we knew next time he had to come back and headline the Pyramid. See you there Friday night!”

She also shared the news in a tweet of her own, adding: “Your Friday night Pyramid headliner is the mighty Stormzy!”

For his own part, Stormzy kept his announcement simple, sharing a picture of the confirmation on his Instagram and captioning it: “THE HEADLINE ACT – GLASTONBURY 2019, well lets be f**king having ya then.”

This will be Stormzy’s third time playing Glastonbury, having previously performing at the Sonic tent in 2016 and on the Other Stage in 2017.

Tickets for next year’s festival sold out just over half an hour after going on sale back in October, but if today’s headline announcement has you wanting to try and get tickets all over again, be sure to check out the resale in April.

Glastonbury 2019 will be held between June 26 and June 30, 2019.
