During his appearance on Netflix’s ‘This Is Pop’, the ‘Bartender’ rapper shares that his conversation with the ‘OMG’ singer takes place when he took a flight around the BET Awards back in 2013.
AceShowbiz –T-Pain stopped by Netflix’s “This Is Pop” on which he recounted his conversation with fellow musician Usher back in 2013. In a new clip from the series, T-Pain, who is known as one of the happiest and feel-good artists in the music industry, revealed that he got depressed over Usher’s remarks about his music.
The “Bartender” rapper shared that the conversation took place when he took a flight around the BET Awards back in 2013. He was sleeping when one of the flight attendants woke him up and told him that Usher wanted to speak with him. “Usher was my friend,” T-Pain shared. “I really respect Usher. And he said, ‘I’m gonna tell you something, man. You kinda f**ked up music.’ “
He was surprised by the remarks and even thought that Usher was joking around until the latter repeated himself, telling T-Pain, “Yeah man you really f**ked up music for real singers.” T-Pain continued, “I was like, ‘What did I do? I came out and I used Auto-Tune.’ He was like, ‘Yeah, you f**ked it up.’ I’m like, ‘But I used it, I didn’t tell everybody else to start using it.’ “
Usher’s remarks made T-Pain doubt himself as he went on to say, “I didn’t understand. Usher was my friend… Did I f**k up music? And that is the very moment–and I don’t think I realized this for a long time–that’s the very moment that started a four-year depression for me.”
In response to the revelations, some fans demanded that Usher issues an apology to T-Pain. “Black Twitter waiting on Usher to apologize to T-Pain…,” a user wrote on Twitter. “usher raymond the mf 4th said what to T-PAINNNNN???” one person said. Insinuating that Usher was being hypocritical, another user noted, “Wait So You Mean To Tell Me Usher Told T-Pain He F**ked Up Music Using Autotune……Then Used Autotune On ‘OMG’???”
“THe sad thing is that T-Pain didn’t f**k up music with the wave of autotune. All he did was use it and a lot of people loved it, but that wasn’t his fault. That’s just the wave of music, and anyone talented enough can tip that scale at any time. Usher was wrong for that s**t,” another person said.
“Usher really woke the man outta his sleep only to disrespect him? Somebody usher this n***a into a CLINIC!!” another user tweeted. Further defending T-Pain, one wrote, “T-Pain is one of the nicest most genuine people I’ve met and everyone at Adult Swim loves him, he’s family. Usher, [Jay-Z],[Kanye West], and Future (among many others) owe him an apology. He’s a pioneer and they weren’t ready. That’s on THEM.”
