When you hear that someone leaves a rehab facility, your mind goes to one of two places. First, that person was able to heal and recover and is ready to go home, or second, that person unfortunately isn’t ready to accept help and checked out too soon. But in Demi Lovato‘s case, the reason for her temporary departure from the treatment center she checked into about two weeks after overdosing on drugs.
TMZ reports that the 25-year-old left her rehab facility last night to fly to Chicago with her mom, Dianna De La Garza, in order to seek help from a psychiatrist who specializes in mental health, sobriety and overall wellness. The trip was, according to the site, “organized by doctors and designed to make her sober and healthy.”
Sources say Demi arrived in Chicago around 2 a.m. today and will stay there receiving treatment for several days. Once she’s done, she’ll fly back to the rehab center she’s been living in since Saturday, August 4.

The sources also reveal that the trip to see the specialist was recommended by her rehab facility and she immediately jumped on the opportunity because she’s “fully committed to getting better.”
“I now need time to heal and focus on my sobriety and road to recovery,” she said in a statement following the OD. “The love you have all shown me will never be forgotten and I look forward to the day where I can say I came out on the other side. I will keep fighting.”
