Billie Eilish has been in the music industry for years but really hit the mainstream in 2018 when she embarked on a world tour. In March 2019 the star released her debut album, When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go?, which reached number one in many territories, including the UK, US and Australia. After reaching a new height of fame, the star has been open about her personal life.

Does Billie Eilish have Tourette’s syndrome?

Yes, Billie announced on her Instagram account in April 2019 that she does have Tourette’s syndrome.

The 19-year-old singer explained she has been suffering from the condition for her entire life and “grew up with it”.

Billie wrote on her Instagram account: “I would love to get this straight so everyone can stop acting goofy… I have diagnosed Tourette’s.

“I’ve never mentioned it on the internet because nobody thinks I’m dead**s [serious]… as well as the fact that I’ve never wanted people to think of Tourette’s every time they think of me. (sic)

“My tics are only physical and not super noticeable to others if you’re not really paying attention (believe me, HAVING them is a whole different type of misery).

“My Tourette’s makes easy things a lot harder. Certain things increase and/or trigger the intensity of the tics. But it’s something I grew up with and am used to.”

Billie went on to add: “My family and closest friends know it as a part of me. I’ve taught myself techniques to help reduce them when I don’t want to be distracting in certain situations. But again, suppressing them only makes things worse after the moment is over.

“Not gonna go into FULL detail but if you want to know more, I am an open book. Wasn’t planning on talking about this on here maybe ever, but it’s gotten to a point… lol.”

The star also laughed off her fans poking fun at her tics, saying: “These compilations y’all been making of my tics are low-key funny even when y’all make fun of them n s**t. I know you’re all confused so as to what it is, so just to let ya know… it’s Tourette’s.” (sic)

Later that year she opened up about her condition further in The Fader magazine.

Billie announced: “It’s confusing when someone is making a weird face gesture or throwing out their neck.

“The internet hasn’t really seen the bad [tics] because I’m really good at suppressing them. The thing is, the longer you suppress them, the worse they get afterwards.”

She went on: “I’m sure one day everyone will see the tic attacks that happen when I’m stressed and haven’t slept. But it could be a lot worse and it’s not, and I’m grateful for that. And you know what, it’s f*****g whatever.”

Billie spoke out about her condition live on The Ellen Degeneres Show in 2019.

After being asked about it by Ellen, Billie said: “It’s something I’ve lived with my whole life, all my family and friends know I have it.”

Despite the condition itself, she said: “I also learned that a lot of my friends have [Tourette’s] which made me feel more at home.

“I also felt a connection there because when I said that I had kids posting like: ‘Oh my god, I’ve always had this, and she has it, and she’s who I look up to.”
