'American Idol' Alums Katharine McPhee and Taylor Hicks Had a Delightfully Shady Twitter Exchange

It’s midterm election season, and celebs have been making sure to spread the word on social media, reminding fans that their vote counts. Singer and actress Katharine McPhee, who is engaged to music legend David Foster btw, decided to send her callout with a cheeky twist. She posted a pic of the historic moment she lost American Idol to Taylor Hicks, captioned “voting matters.

Hicks, who is still active in the music scene—and, it looks like, Twitter—couldn’t resist throwing the shade right back. “You’re a little late to the party, Kat,” he replied. Burn.

You’re right, voting DOES matter! But you’re a little late to the party, Kat ? https://t.co/gefcNBfeNu

Technically, voting in the primaries for both McPhee and Hicks is over, because they reside in California and Alabama respectively. But other states like Hawaii, Connecticut, New York, Vermont, Alaska, and Florida—just to name a few—still have their primary dates coming up. And all U.S. citizens can (and should!) still make sure they’re registered to vote in this year’s midterms icome November.

This isn’t even the first time McPhee’s showed off some A+ social media sass this week. Also on Tuesday, she shared a pic while on vacation in Canada with Foster. Her soon-to-be stepdaughter, Erin Foster, commented on the pic, “FEELS LIKE I COULD HAVE BEEN INVITED ON THIS BEAUTIFUL TRIP.” To that, McPhee replied, “mommy and daddy need alone time.” (The gag is that “mommy” McPhee is two years younger than Erin, FYI.)
