Bears and squirrels and lemurs — oh, my!
Looney Tunes has nothing on the finalists in this year’s Comedy Wildlife Photography Awards, with the contest’s top entries featuring an overload of cute and crazy critters in hilarious poses.
From a pair of grizzly cubs dancing like two kids at prom to a squirrel that looks as if he’s either helping a friend back into a parking space or imploring his drinking buddies to hear him out on his latest crackpot political theory, the 41 finalists are a menagerie of animals acting just like us.
In one photo, a sifaka lemur holds his hand to his mouth, as if checking his breath or popping in a mint. Or maybe he’s just tired.
The finalists were selected from thousands of photos submitted online. The top prize of Overall Winner for will go to the picture that, in the estimation of a panel of judges, exhibits the “best technical excellence” and “most amusing content and caption.”
The winning shutterbug will be announced in November and receive a trophy and a one-week photographic safari for two people in Kenya’s Maasai Mara game reserve.
The annual contest is sponsored by the Born Free Foundation, a wildlife-conservation nonprofit.
