While quarantine is stressing many Americans out, Suzanne Somers seems to be making the most of the extra time indoors. The Three’s Company star appeared on Page Six’s “We Hear” podcast and opened up about what she’s been up to. Apparently, she’s been having sex “most days, and the position is not photographable.”
The 73-year-old actress, who’s been married to husband Alan Hamel, 83, since 1977, said she injects Alan with testosterone every Tuesday, which increases his sex drive. “Wednesday’s a very good day. We have found a way,” she said. “My girlfriends go, ‘You do not have sex twice a day.’ It’s no forced march.”
“I’m in the mood. He’s in the mood. Sometimes it’s once a day,” she added. “Sometimes later in the day, you’re in the mood again because what are you going to do during this pandemic?”
The shots—PT-141, a melanocortin based peptide—have been game-changer for her relationship. “I’m kind of in that groove, like when you were younger and you’re in the mood all the time, and so is he because he’s on hormone replacements,” she told the Daily Mail. “I thought, ‘Wow, what a great thing.’”
The Food and Drug Administration approved PT-141 (sold under the branded name Vyleesi and the generic bremelanotide) to treat hypoactive sexual desire disorder, or a lack of interest in sex, in premenopausal women. It comes in a pen-like gizmo with a small needle that you cannot see. (Common side effects of Vyleesi include nausea and vomiting, flushing, injection site reactions, and headaches—so you should always consult your doctor first.)
Suzanne says it’s also crucial to create some time to unwind outside of the bedroom. She regularly hosts a virtual cocktail hour on Facebook Live.
“I honest to God think having a cocktail hour at five o’clock. We do our cocktail hour from five to six, whether we do it Facebook Live or not,” she said. “And we do it right: We bring an ice bucket to the bar. And I put out a linen little thing and put the Baccarat glasses on the top of it and then put some salty things on the bar. Some cheese or some Kalamata olives or something. It relaxes us. It’s a time just for us.”
