Stansted Airport grounds all flights after ‘incident on runway’

Flights at Stansted Airport have been grounded due to an incident on the runway, according to reports.

Passengers have described seeing emergency services at the scene.

One person wrote on Twitter: "No flights in or out at Stansted due to ‘incident on the runway’. Emergency vehicles flashing their lights in the distance."

Another added: "So Stansted has shut the runway. Two hour delay. FML."

A third commented: "Nothing leaving or landed at Stansted Airport due to a ‘incident.’"

Passenger Sam Long also claimed to have heard a "loud bang" as his flight to Vienna took off.

He said: "Began to accelerate and take off. Huge deceleration, stopped and then evacced to runway."

Stansted Airport has been contacted for a comment.
