Social Media Reacts to the August 28 Return of the Pumpkin Spice Latte

Starbucks’ Pumpkin Spice Latte is officially back, and social media reactions are mixed, at best. Rumors swirled earlier this month that the polarizing drink was due to make an earlier than usual debut, and the PSL’s reappearance on Tuesday, August 28, has delighted some, but infuriated others who aren’t quite ready to bid farewell to summer.

While one person wrote on Twitter, where the PSL has been trending in No. 1 spot, that it was a “good time to be alive” because of the PSL, another said they felt “personally attacked” by the beverage’s summertime debut, especially since temperatures in much of the country are nearing or above 90 degrees.

Interestingly enough, reports actually speculated the PSL would be returning on August 28 after internal documents from Starbucks leaked and reportedly confirmed that date. Several Starbucks stores also began receiving PSL supplies in early August, kicking speculation into overdrive.

Still critics who argue August 28 is just too early to start sipping on a pumpkin beverage have a point. In fact, an analysis of the drink’s yearly return dates shows it typically appears on Starbucks’ fall menu sometime between August 30 and September 4, so August 28 is a tad earlier than usual.
