Apparently, the convictions were only the beginning. That’s the word from the new trailer for “Making a Murderer” Part 2, which returns Oct. 19.
Netflix released the almost 3-minute trailer for the true-crime documentary series on Tuesday, and life is looking intense for Steven Avery and his nephew Brendan Dassey.
Part 1 of the show followed the convictions of Avery and Dassey in the 2005 murder of 25-year-old Teresa Halbach, chronicling Avery’s journey from DNA exoneree and reformer to convicted murderer. Both were found guilty in 2007 in connection with the murder of the 25-year-old photographer from St. John, Wis.
Following the show’s debut in 2015, a defense motion for a new trial for Avery was filed and subsequently denied in 2017. The U.S. Supreme Court decided not to hear Dassey’s appeal after lower courts overturned and then reinstated his conviction.
Now, Avery has enlisted the high-powered help of attorney Kathleen Zellner.
“I have one goal,” Zellner says in the trailer, “And that’s to overturn the conviction of Steven Avery.”
Cue the dramatic music, courthouse montages and teases of potential new evidence that could break open the whole case.
