The naughty broadcaster, 44, admitted the prank on his Radio X breakfast show this morning and also tweeted the clip in full – which shows him grinning at the camera at the end.
John Lewis had denied the clip was real this week but rumours swirled after fans spotted that it featured a John Lewis bauble listed for sale online.
It also had Elton John's Rocket Man playing in the background and featured a figure at a piano, convincing people that the veteran singer would feature in this year's campaign.
Sir Elton John has reportedly been paid £5million to appear in this year's real John Lewis Christmas advert.
But it was all part of Moyles' cheeky prank to fool fans – and it worked.
This morning, Moyles tweeted the full fake teaser advert and said: "Is this the new John Lewis Christmas Advert…?
"Put simply no it's not."
After he admitted the "November Fool", listeners said the prank was "genius" and sent him laughing face and applause emojis on Twitter.
The original four-second teaser advert leaked on social media on Sunday showed the camera focusing on an astronaut bauble on a Christmas tree.
It then panned to a figure wearing a colourful costume at the piano, which many people thought was Elton John.
But the full clip tweeted out by Moyles and Radio X reveals it was just the veteran DJ – in a Donald Duck outfit.
He turns to the camera and flashes a cheeky grin in the clip.
A message then pops up saying "Lovingly Mis-Sold" – which mocks John Lewis' actual slogan: "Never Knowingly Undersold".
The prank has already gone viral on Twitter and people are loving the naughty joke.
On his radio show this morning, Moyles gave a shoutout to The Sun after we were one of the first to report on the mysterious "fake" teaser trailer and the fact it featured a real John Lewis bauble.
The bauble in the advert has sold out online since Moyles snapped it up for his prank.
The Sun has asked John Lewis for comment about the joke video and we will update this story when we hear back.
The real John Lewis Christmas advert is still not out yet – but it's thought to air later this year than usual.
The advert has been released on November 10 for the last two years.
It's thought Elton John will star – and sources close to the production told The Mail on Sunday that Elton's fee makes up half of the advert's £10million budget.
