DEAR DEIDRE: SINCE my relationship ended two years ago I’ve struggled.
I can’t shake my girlfriend from my mind.
I’m a 19-year-old guy and we were together for two years.
The time away from her has made me feel more sure she was the one for me.
I’ve had many one-night stands since but nothing seems to stick, nor do I feel the motivation to pursue new people.
Friends say I should be over her by now but I spend weekdays thinking about her and feeling sorry for myself, followed by weekends of heavy drinking to forget about her.
DEIDRE SAYS: There is often quite a gap between one serious relationship and meeting someone else who is right for us.
But there will be someone in time, so use this period constructively.
Would the right girl be attracted to a heavy drinker?
Think what went wrong in your last relationship and make any changes needed.
Stop the drinking and take up something like running, which will give you structure, improve fitness and lift your mood.
