Nando’s replaces Mango and Lime PERI-PERI sauce with new fruity flavour

If you’re a fan of the cheeky British chicken chain Nando’s then have we got some exciting news for you…

No longer will you choose between three levels of spicy peri-peri, plain, lemon and herb or mango and lime.

As, sadly for lime-lovers – mango and lime is… gone.

That’s right, the sweet but less spicy option has had an overhaul this month and has been replaced by a new, funky chicken marinade.

The new peri-peri baste, passionfruit and mango, will be available to order in the UK from today – January 29.

Just in time for Valentine's Day!

A Nando's spokesperson said: “In a move not dissimilar from recent reality TV drama, Nando’s current Mango & Lime spice will make way for a hotter couple, with Mango re-coupling with Passion Fruit to create the ultimate, tropical flavour. “

The new, mild spice baste will be applied to the chicken before it is cooked to give the meat a fruity kick.

It has been introduced to the menu after its success at Nando’s Yard last summer – a Shoreditch pop-up which trailed new flavours on its customers.

A grilled chicken breast fillet made with the new flavour will contain 161 calories and 3.6g of sugar in comparison with plain, which has 138 calories and 0.1g sugar, and lemon and herb, 148 calories and 0.2g sugar.

These amounts mean that the new sauce contains the largest amount of sugar – including when compared to the spicy bastes – but is not the most calorific.

Both Extra hot and hot PERI- PERI bastes contain more calories at 220 and 179 respectively for the chicken breast option.

Passion fruit grows across Nando’s Southern African heartland which makes it the perfect match for a new PERi-PERi flavour profile.

The tangy new flavour is perfect for those who like a little sweetness on their wings or want to try something different on their burger.

If you’re feeling distraught at the loss of mango and lime… don’t worry, passionfruit and mango will only be around for a limited period of four months before the menu reverts to the old favourite.

So if you’re keen to try it you should probably hurry up and organise a cheeky Nando’s trip.
