Mum’s ‘sprinkle’ carpet cleaning hack gets floors clean in minutes

A thrifty mum has shared the simple secrets behind her brilliant homemade carpet cleaner.

She believes it is better – and cheaper – than expensive formulas currently on shop shelves.

The two-ingredient recipe has taken the cleaning world by storm with many saying they won't go back.

The Australian woman called Emma took to Facebook to explain her process.

She says she used to spend $5 every time – but soon started to experiment herself.

It didn't take long for her to discover she can make her own for a fraction of the price.

"Carpet sprinkle, it's so expensive!' Emma wrote.

"I didn't realise until recently that you can buy big bags of bi-carbonate soda for cheap instead of the little boxes. So I made my own sprinkle."

The mum said she first of all threw a bag of the bi-carb soda into one of her containers.

Then, she simple added a "few tablespoons of smelly oil" into the mixture.

She stressed how you must then mix it right through.

She added: "You can use whatever essential oil you prefer – be aware with cats and eucalyptus oil and a few others as they cause reactions.

"I just used a measuring spoon for ease to sprinkle it about.

"Much cheaper than a container of carpet sprinkle that only usually does me."

Emma swears by the tip – and she had plenty of messages from others saying it worked wonders.

Others even passed on tips to make it even better.

One told her: "You can add Borax to the mix to kill off bacteria and small amounts of mould in the carpet."

Before making DIY cleaning products, make sure you read packet instructions first as mixing chemicals can be dangerous.
