Mum’s disgust at KFC’s ‘mouldy chicken burger’ that ‘could’ve killed son, 10’

Stomach-churning photos capture a chicken burger "covered in black mould" served to a furious mum and her two children.

Charlotte Robinson, 38, was hoping to tuck in to a Friday night takeaway with her kids Kaylan, 10, and Kyla, 13.

Kaylan has severe fish and peanut allergies, so the mum, from Crawley, West Sussex, chose KFC as a suitable treat for her lad.

Moments after Deliveroo served the Fillet Tower Burger Bundle to their home, the youngster bit into the chicken burger.

But he found it "tasted funny" before allegedly discovering a revolting black mark on the bottom bun.

Speaking exclusively to Mirror Online, housewife Charlotte claimed: "It was disgusting. Someone on Facebook said that it could have killed someone.

"I think it was 100% mould. It looked like it. The bread was not wet.

"My son had a few mouthfuls of chips and then bit into the burger, as he was couldn’t see the mould – it was on the bottom bun. As he put the burger down, he then noticed the black stuff and said ‘No wonder I thought it tasted funny.’

"How did they manage to serve that like that?

"My son actually had a bite. It’s terrible."

A KFC spokesman said the mould wasn’t harmful but "shouldn’t be there" and apologised to Charlotte. Deliveroo also apologised to the mum-of-two for the gruesome discovery.

Charlotte rang Deliveroo immediately to demand a refund for her meal as Kyla was so repulsed by the burger, she lost her appetite.

But the mum alleged the firm would only refund her for the one burger and wouldn’t provide replacement food from the KFC.

She has since put the burger in a bag and contacted her council’s environmental health team.

However, she now is considering to boycott both companies.

The mother, who doesn’t drive, added: "We have used Deliveroo regularly for a while.

"But they weren’t really interested in seeing the pictures. I rang them and they weren’t helpful.

"I’m not sure I’ll still be using them.

"We have had a bad experience with them before when they came with the wrong food.

"And KFC has been a regular choice because it’s good for my son with his allergies. He can eat the Fillet Tower Burger there and it’s not cooked in the same oil as the fish, which would be dangerous.

"But my daughter has been put off KFC now."

A Deliveroo spokesman said: "KFC and Deliveroo believe every meal you order from us should be amazing.

"We’re very sorry that on this rare occasion something went wrong and a loyal customer didn’t get the great experience we and they expect.

"We’ve refunded the Charlotte’s meal and next Friday night is on us too. “

A spokesman for KFC said: “This obviously isn’t what you want to find on your bun – it isn’t harmful, but wouldn’t taste nice and shouldn’t be there.

"We’re looking into what happened, but haven’t had any similar complaints, making this very unusual.

"We’re really sorry for Charlotte’s experience and would like to offer her a free meal on us next time she visits.”
