A Scottish mother got the fright of her life after discovering a drunken stranger asleep on her sofa.
Elaine McDade, 43, a dance teacher from Glasgow, had been watching TV in bed with her children on Saturday night when she popped downstairs for a drink.
After hearing some noise in her living room, she looked through the door to discover 26-year-old Thomas Airlie, an engineer from South Lanarkshire, in an alcohol-induced slumber on her sofa.
Thomas had let himself in the wrong house – where his parents lived two years ago – and had gone to sleep – but not before taking off his shoes and helping himself to a drink from the fridge.
Elaine, who said it was the one time she had forgotten to lock her front door, claims she woke the ‘apologetic’ man immediately, then her husband dropped him off at the nearest Asda because he couldn’t remember where he lived.
Taking to Facebook Elaine shared the hilarious incident with her friends, getting hundreds of likes and dozens of comments.
Mother-of-two Elaine McDade, 43, from Glasgow was left shocked when she discovered a drunken stranger asleep on her sofa after he had mistakenly returned to his parents’ old home (Thomas Airlie, 26, from South Lancashire seen asleep on her sofa)
Elaine took the incident in good humour and later took to Facebook to share the hilarious incident with her friends, explaining that she was so excited to see the children after a business trip that she left the door unlocked- before the drunk stranger entered
The dance teacher, who has two children, later discovered she had forgotten to lock the door for the first time and Thomas had later drunkenly entered after getting a taxi there as it was his parents’ former home.
Elaine said: ‘He even took his shoes off at the back door. He was a very polite guy.

‘I’d just arrived back from London that night and my husband was at work.
Elaine (pictured), who said it was the one time she had forgotten to lock her front door, claims she woke the ‘apologetic’ man immediately before her husband dropped him off at the nearest Asda because he couldn’t remember where he lived after he wandered into her home
‘I was in bed with the kids on Saturday night and got up to make myself a drink.
‘We were watching TV for about an hour and a half. I don’t know if he was already in the house by then.
‘Later on I went back downstairs and that’s when I saw him fast asleep.’
Thomas, who had been out with a group of friends, was happily snoozing on Elaine’s corner sofa when he was woken by the homeowner.
He had left his friends at around 11pm that night and is got in a taxi back to his parents’ old house instead of his current home.
Elaine claims she called Stephen and he drove Thomas to the nearest Asda as he’d forgotten where he lived.
Elaine said: ‘When I saw him I woke him up straight away. I even asked him if he used to live here, or if he lived in the same street now and had just got the wrong door.
‘I phoned my husband and he agreed to take him home but he didn’t even know where he lived so he dropped him off at ASDA instead.
‘There was a lady who knew his parents and she said she couldn’t believe what had happened.
Thomas Airlie, 26, (centre) from South Lancashire had mistakenly caught a taxi back to his parents’ old home after a lively night out (seen with his two pals on the evening out) and ended up on Elaine’s sofa
‘She sent him the photo and I got a message from him on Facebook saying “oh my god, I can’t apologise enough”.
‘After seeing the picture, he found it funny. He saw the funny side and he was very apologetic.
‘To be honest, even just by the way he was laying, I could see he was just a normal guy who’d had too much to drink.
‘I knew straight away he was just p*****. I knew he wasn’t an intruder or a ‘down and out’.
‘If that was the case I would just have grabbed the kids and went outside.’
Elaine had just returned from a business trip in London and claims her excitement to see her kids made her forget to lock the door.
She has now vowed to be extra cautious next time and has learned her lesson.
Elaine said: ‘I always lock the door but I had been away in London for a week and was desperate to get back to see my boy.
‘I’d driven back from London and was unpacking my car when I saw the excitement on my son’s face and got distracted.
‘Every single time I walk through that door I automatically lock it.. The one time I forget and this happens. I’ve learned my lesson.’
Thomas had been out with a group of 12 friends and his mate Robbie McKean claims they will ‘never let him forget’ his drunken antics.
Robbie said: ‘Our friend had a baby boy not long ago so we were out wetting the baby’s head and we basically had a free night so we overindulged a wee bit.
‘I can happily say he doesn’t walk into people’s houses and sleep on their couch on a regular basis and our group will most definitely never let him forget it.’
