Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s wedding was nothing short of a fairytale. Of course, we now know that life behind closed doors wasn’t nearly what it seemed, though for that brief moment of Meghan’s wedding day, she felt blissful. And she recently opened up about the first song she listened to the morning of the royal wedding.
Millions of people watched Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s royal wedding
In the first few months of Harry and Meghan’s relationship, everything seemed blissful. The couple’s relationship was under the radar, but it wouldn’t be long before the tabloids learned who Meghan Markle was — and who she was about to become.
Once the couple started dating, though, there were rumors floating around about Meghan’s past — a harsh, sudden divorce, plus a strained relationship with her father and his family. Harry and Meghan’s wedding was watched by nearly 24 million people, and at the time, it felt perfect. But shortly after, Meghan’s life became difficult. The tabloids had a field day running stories about an alleged feud between Meghan and Kate, with many taking Kate’s side. Eventually, the press, combined with Meghan being forced to remain silent, caused she and Harry to leave the royal family.
Meghan Markle revealed the first song she played the morning of her big day
Before the press changed Harry and Meghan’s life forever, Meghan was greatly looking forward to marrying the man of her dreams. She recalled her wedding day to Oprah Winfrey at the beginning of their conversation together during Meghan’s CBS interview.
Meghan revealed that she and Harry had actually exchanged vows three days prior to their royal wedding. “We called the Archbishop and we just said, ‘Look, this thing, this spectacle is for the world. But we want our union between us,’” Meghan said.
Meghan revealed that, on the morning of her official royal wedding, she woke up and immediately started listening to one song: “Chapel of Love” by The Dixie Cups. The song was first released back in 1964, and it spent three weeks at no. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100. It’s, fittingly, about a wedding day. Meghan also revealed that she had a good night’s sleep the night before the royal wedding, which surprised her.
Meghan Markle said Kate Middleton actually made her cry over the flower girl dresses
Perhaps one of the biggest bombshells of Meghan and Harry’s interview was the straightening out of a rumor that Meghan made Kate cry during the week of her and Harry’s wedding. According to Meghan’s version of the story, it was actually the opposite.
“No, the reverse happened,” Meghan said, dropping the news that Kate actually made her cry. And I don’t say that to be disparaging to anyone because it was a really hard week of the wedding, and she was upset about it, and she owned it, and she apologized, and she brought me flowers and a note apologizing, and she did what I would do.”
Meghan revealed other happenings behind closed doors, including her desperation to get help for her mental health, which was denied, and “conversations” about concerns over Archie’s skin tone.
