Meghan Markle gave birth to her first child Archie Harrison just weeks ago, but the new mother has been branded “selfish” by TV presenter Piers Morgan, 54.
The Duchess of Sussex married into the Royal Family in May of last year.
Since then, she has engaged in many public outings and taken part in two foreign tours while pregnant.
However, Piers has taken issue with the former-actress taking time off her official duties to care for her new born son during President Donald Trump’s visit to the UK.
Meghan Markle news: Prince Harry’s wife branded SELFISH for behaviour during Trump visit
Piers said it was “unacceptable” for Meghan Markle not to meet Trump in his MailOnline column.
He wrote: “I’m sorry, but bunking off at home is simply not an option for ANY senior member of the Royal Family.
“By doing so, she was not just giving the metaphorical bird to Trump, as she would have most definitely wanted to do, she was giving it to his host the Queen, her country who he is representing and the country whom she now represents.”
He took issue with the fact Meghan attended the Trooping the Colour, the Monarch’s official birthday this weekend, but not the state dinner welcoming the president to the UK.
It has been reported that Meghan struggled to leave her baby at home for the event on Saturday.
An insider told US Weekly: “She has spent almost every moment with him and saying goodbye was very difficult but Meghan truly wanted to be at the celebration for the Queen.”
Twitter users were quick to criticise Piers for his unforgiving take on new mum Meghan’s absence in recent weeks.
One wrote: “Who cares what Piers Morgan thinks or Trump for that matter. Also, Meghan has been on Mat Leave having given birth only 4 weeks ago.”
Another said: “Let’s be real, Piers Morgan was never a friend to Meghan, having one drink with a person one time doesn’t equal a friendship.
“Meghan is on maternity leave, if the Queen wanted her to attend the state visit events she would have asked her but she didn’t, that’s it.
However, some did agree with the TV host.
Another said: “Why? He’s right about this. Right about Meghan snubbing Trump. Wrong about many things and right about some.”
Another said: “I dislike @PiersMorgan’s arrogance & narcissism but I agree with his article here.”
Meghan Markle and Prince Harry appeared together this weekend for the Duchess’s first public outing since she had her child.
