An army veteran has blasted a pub for serving him a Christmas Day roast consisting of pigs in "threadbare" blankets and "tiny, mushy" roast potatoes.
Peter Beaumont arrived at the Wagon and Horses pub in Gloucester on Wednesday with his dad and partner hoping for a quality roast dinner.
The former Channel Tunnel chef and Gloucestershire Regiment corporal, who likes to think he knows what makes a good meal, says that dinner he received "ruined" Christmas.
Mitchells & Butlers, the firm which owns the pub, has since apologised and contacted Peter directly – something he disputes, Gloucestershire Live reported.
The troubled visit got off to a bad start when the party say they arrived to be told they have only booked a table for two, not three.
Following an uncomfortable discussion, the group was led to their table where they say they did not receive their complimentary glass of Bucks Fizz, as advertised when they stumped up £38.99 for the pre-paid meal.
While they waited for a third place at the table to be set, the trio say they sweltered in "extremely hot" heat caused by the "boiling" radiators.
"We sat and sweat for a while," said the army veteran, whose request to open a window was refused.
As they waited for their food and became increasingly warm the family looked at their surroundings.
"I noticed gravy splashes on the light fitments above our table and cobwebs dangling from the ceiling," Peter said.
When the starter arrived they say it was "tepid" and lacking sour cream or garlic croutons.
The baguette portion that accompanied it was a mere three inches of crusty stick-end.
It was the main course that really got Peter fuming however.
He said: "We did not get a jug of gravy as per the menu.
"The turkey was moist and fairly warm; the sprouts were under cooked and quite hard and tepid.
"The carrots were un-peeled or scraped and were not even topped and tailed, and also very under cooked and hard.
"The broccoli was edible – just – but tepid. The roast parsnips were under cooked.
"The embarrassing roast potatoes were tiny, mushy and boiled in oil, and certainly not like a roast potato.
"The stuffing ball were the tiniest things, about the size of a marble and just as hard.
"My pig in a blanket was disappointing, the blanket was thread bare."
Despite having asked at the beginning of the meal, the Bucks Fizz only arrived halfway through the main course, they claim.
The Christmas pudding dessert was also deemed not up to scratch and was doused in "tepid" brandy sauce.
Mr Beaumont said his request for a refund was rejected.
He was not pleased with the customer service and claims staff did not respond to his complaints on the day or since.
He said: "Christmas Day was a ruined event because of the dinner."
A spokesperson for the Wagon and Horses said: “We pride ourselves on providing great quality food and excellent service to our guests each and every time they visit us.
"We're sorry that on this occasion we didn't meet Mr Beaumont's expectations, we have taken his feedback on board and have contacted him directly to resolve this matter."
