Little-known way to get Aldi prices at Tesco if you're ordering online

A TESCO shopper has revealed a clever way to find cupboard staples at Aldi prices if you’re ordering online.

Tesco sparked a supermarket price war in March 2020 by vowing to match the price of Aldi on hundreds of products.

But if you’re not sure which items have been lowered in price, there’s a quick way to check.

Type in “Aldi price match” on the Tesco website and the supermarket will bring up every product that is the same price or cheaper.

Some of the items include everyday essentials like bread, milk and cheese.

For example, a four-pint of semi skimmed milk costs £1.09 at both supermarkets, while a 400g block of cheese comes to £1.79.

Branded goods are also part of the price match initiative.

Shoppers can buy a 240-pack box of PG Tips for £3.79 at both grocers, or a 100g jar of Nescafe coffee for £2.65.

You can find more examples in the box above.

This trick only works for Tesco customers who are shopping online, although you’ll still find Aldi price matched items in stores.

How to cut the cost of your grocery shop

MONEY.CO.UK has shared some top tips with us to help you keep your supermarket spend down to a minimum.

  • Write yourself a list – Only buy items that you need. If it isn't on your list, don't put it in the trolley
  • Create a budget – Work out a weekly budget for your food shopping
  • Never shop hungry – You are far more likely to buy  more food if your tummy is rumbling
  • Don't buy pre-chopped veggies or fruit – The extra they'll charge for chopping can be eye watering
  • Use social media – Follow your favourite retailers to find out about the latest deals
  • Be disloyal – You may want to go to different stores to find the best bargains
  • Check the small print –  It’s always worth checking the price per kg/lb/litre when comparing offers so you’re making a like for like decision as a bigger box won’t necessarily mean you get more
  • Use your loyalty cards – Don’t be afraid to sign up to them all. They all work slightly differently – work out what bonus suits you better and remember to trade in your points for additional rewards

It was shared by one money-savvy shopper on Facebook who couldn't get to her nearest Aldi, reports The Daily Star.

Aldi doesn't offer an online delivery service.

The customer was reported to have posted: "I am a massive Aldi fan, but couldn’t get to the shop.

"So I typed ‘Aldi price match’ into the search bar and just got my shopping from Tesco."

Not all products are exactly the same price, as the supermarkets don't necessarily stock the same sizes across their brands.

For example, a pack of 250g plum tomatoes costs 72p but Aldi sells a 275g pack for 79p – so you're getting a bigger size at Aldi.

Tesco confirms this on its website: "We match against comparable products at Aldi or we match identical branded products at Aldi."

It's still a good idea to compare prices on individual items instead of taking the "Aldi price match" at face value.
