Learner driver ‘feared for life’ as road rage thug chased instructor’s car

A terrified driving instructor had to call 999 after being chased by an enraged motorist for 10 minutes – during a LESSON.

Perwaiz Rajput claims the incident is one of two horrifying run-ins he’s had with drivers over the last few months.

The 58-year-old is now reluctant to carry on working after saying the job has become “impossible at times” due to the dangerous driving habits of motorists on his home city’s "lawless" roads.

In one incident, he was in the passenger seat at a busy junction when his nervy student spent 30 seconds negotiating a turn on a busy road which held up traffic behind.

As the learner waited for a gap the driver behind him began repeatedly tooting his horn and edging closer to Perwaiz’s vehicle in Bradford, West Yorks.

When the instructor from Central Driving School in Wibsey, Bradford, and his pupil managed to pull out the angry motorist, in a Jeep, began tailgating them.

The ‘terrifying’ pursuit caught on dashcam footage lasted 10 minutes and Perwaiz had to dial 999 because he was scared that if he stopped the other man would attack them with a weapon.

The father-of-four, from Bradford, said: "It was such a terrifying experience because I didn’t know what the other driver was capable of.

"It’s horrible to know you’re being followed and especially when the person is driving so close to you and so dangerously.

"They were so angry and I was scared they had a knife of a crowbar on them.

"At one point he overtook us in a really dangerous way and it seemed like he was trying to block and stop us.

"My pupil was really scared, he was under so much pressure and his hands were shaking.

"By the time the police arrived the other driver had gone away but I gave them his details."

Despite being a driving instructor for 19 years, Perwaiz believes the current standard of driving is the worst he has ever seen.

Earlier this month, he was involved in another terrifying run-in when a motorist smashed into the side of his car.

On that occasion, he and his pupil were stationary at a junction when a Mercedes 4×4 tried to turn too fast and skidded into the side of them.

The offending driver, who had three passengers in the vehicle, then reversed backwards and sped away without checking if the people in the other car were okay.

Perwaiz said he and his pupil were ‘left for dead’.

A picture shows an enormous dent in the driver side door of the green Mercedes A-Class which is costing him £7,500 to repair.

As a result of the work being done on his car, the instructor has been out of work and unable to earn a living for nearly two weeks.

A West Yorkshire Police spokesman said: "Enquiries are continuing to identify the suspects in both of these incidents."
