It's time to rejoice, Little Monsters! Lady Gaga is finally back to making bops with the official release of her first single in three years: "Stupid Love."
Despite the track leaking last month, fans are now able to hear the song in full — and the lyrics are totally relatable. The song is about meeting someone new post-breakup and the mixed emotions that come with moving on for good. In one of the verses, Gaga sings, "Now, it's time to free me from the chain / I gotta find that peace, is it too late or / Could this love protect me from the pain? / I would battle for you (Even if I break in two)."
Meanwhile the chorus is super catchy: "I want your stupid love, love / I want your stupid love, love / (Oh-oh-oh, oh-oh-oh, oh-oh, oh-oh-oh-oh-oh)."
Last night, Gaga was feeling extra generous and not only dropped the new single, but also its accompanying music video for fans to feast on. Set in a futuristic desert, Gaga and her "Kindness punks" battle against other tribes separated by the colors of the rainbow (think Power Rangers). In the end, the songstress brings everyone together with her killer dance moves. Most surprising? The entire thing was shot on an iPhone.
"I know everyone in the world has different relationships with love, but guess what? I'm pretty sure that when we all decide to be vulnerable, it's really scary, and I think it's very scary for a lot of people," Gaga shared about how her own love life influenced the creation of "Stupid Love" while speaking to Zane Lowe for New Music Daily on Apple Music.
"There's all kinds of laws and constructs and things that have built all around us and, you know, what I really want to do [is for] this song to come out and I'd love for it to collapse as many of those walls as possible and for people to be saying, 'I want your stupid love. I love you.'"
According to Gaga herself, we can expect more where that came from upon the new album's release. “We are definitely dancing,” Gaga says. “I think the best way to describe all of the things that you just said is that I put all my heart, all my pain, all my messages from the other realm that I hear of what they… what they tell me to tell the world and I put it into music that I believe to be so fun and you know, energetically really pure, and I want people to dance and feel happy.”
Gaga hasn't announced the album's title or when it will drop just yet, but something tells us it will be worth the wait.
