Jerry Springer enters the daytime court TV fray with ‘Judge Jerry’

Watch out, Judge Judy: Jerry Springer is getting in on the gavel game.

Springer, whose long-running talk show ceased production earlier this year, will launch “Judge Jerry,” a daily half-hour court show, in the fall of 2019. The first-run syndication series will be distributed by NBC Universal.

“ ‘Judge Jerry’ will merge Jerry’s talent for connecting with people, his incredibly relatable and funny personality and his legal training and governing experience to bring viewers a more entertaining court show,” said Tracie Wilson, a creative-affairs exec at NBC Universal TV Distribution, in a statement to USA TODAY. “We are so happy to continue our fantastic partnership with Jerry, who is a proven TV icon with a dedicated and broad fan base.”

Like his daytime court-show competition, “Judge Jerry” will hear real cases from litigants but will also add a “Final Thoughts”-style dose of what NBC calls “classic Springer wisdom.”
