Lupita Nyong’o was born in Mexico City, Mexico to Kenyan parents on March 1, 1983. This makes the actress 36 years old. The reason she was born in Mexico is that her father was serving as a guest professor at the El Colegio de Mexico during this time. Despite growing up primarily in Kenya, Nyong’o did return to Mexico when she was sixteen for several months so that she could learn how to speak Spanish. In addition to Spanish and English, Nyong’o speaks her native tongue of Swahili and Luo.

When rumors began in 2018 that Nyong’o was dating her Black Panther costar, Michael B. Jordan, fans went wild. To people all over the world, there could be no better match than the two, who seemed to make such a wonderful couple together. They have great chemistry both onscreen and off… but the two are most certainly not a couple.
Both Lupita Nyong’o and Michael B. Jordan spoke out against the rumors, both effectively stating that they are only friends. Jordan told Entertainment Tonight “No, we’re good friends, honestly, we’ve known each other a really long time and respect each other and I love this girl to death.”
Nyong’o continued on her costar’s statement, saying that “it’s such a rare thing to find people you have good chemistry with… it makes the work richer that we truly enjoy each other’s company on and off screen.”

The only confirmed relationship that Lupita Nyong’o has been in was with Somali musician and rap artist, K’Naan. He is famous for being the creator of the FIFA World Cup 2010 official song Wavin’ Flags. The couple dated between 2013 and 2014. In 2012, it was rumored that Nyong’o was dating her 12 Years A Slave costar, Chiwetel Ejiofor. This was never confirmed, however, but was based on their onstage chemistry combined with the two spending some time together off screen.
In 2013, there were rumors circulating that Lupita Nyong’o was dating Michael Fassbender, who is a producer that worked on the set of 12 Years A Slave. Then, in 2014, there were yet more rumors. This time, that Nyong’o was dating actor and rock musician, Jared Leto. Leto is the front man for the alternative rock band, 30 Seconds to Mars, and is best known for playing the Joker in DC’s Suicide Squad. These relationships were not confirmed, however, and would have occurred right around the time Nyong’o was known to be dating K’Naan.
