An HBO documentary series about the upstate sex cult is in the works, the cable network announced Thursday.
The series will follow a range of people who joined Nxivm and “take a deep, nuanced look at experiences of its members, spotlighting their universal desire for personal growth,” HBO said.
It will also look at the “emotional toll” of the practices of a group within the organization called DOS, which prosecutors say branded women with leader Keith Raniere’s initials and groomed them to have sex with him.
Also included in the upcoming doc will be the ongoing legal case against the purported self-help organization on charges of sex-trafficking and racketeering. One of its prominent members, former “Smallville” TV actress Allison Mack pleaded guilty April 8 to racketeering and racketeering conspiracy charges, including extortion and forced labor.
The series will be directed by award-winning directors Jehane Noujaim and Karim Amer. Noujaim actually attended Nxivm’s introductory “Executive Success Program” workshop back in 2010.
An air date hasn’t been set yet.
