Girl, 14, dies after bicycle collided with a van in Cornwall

A 14-year-old girl has died after her bicycle collided with a van in Cornwall, police have confirmed.

Emergency services were called to Tubbon Hill near Stithians at 1.45pm on Saturday.

The road was closed for more than six hours while forensic officers examined the scene, Cornwall Live reports.

The teenager, from the Truro area, was pronounced dead at the scene.

A spokeswoman for Devon and Cornwall Police appealed for witnesses to come forward.

"Police are appealing for witnesses to a fatal collision near Stithians at the weekend in which a 14-year-old girl died.

"Emergency services were called to Tubbon Hill at 1.45pm on Saturday [28 December] after the girl’s bicycle was in collision with a van.

"The teenager, from the  Truro  area, sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene.

"The road was closed for more than six hours for a forensic examination of the scene to be carried out.

"Officers are investigating the circumstances surrounding the collision and appealing for witnesses.

"They would also like to hear from anyone who may have relevant dash cam footage of the incident."
