THE nation is simmering with rage at the price of Bisto gravy.
The brand’s maker, Premier Foods, is in hot water after hiking the cost of Best Chicken Gravy by up to 50 per cent.
Luckily there are ways to stir up savings with these tips . . .
FLOUR POWER: Cheapest of all is making your own gravy, with meat juices, flour and vegetable stock.
Tesco’s How to Make Gravy For Any Roast at realfood.tesco.com gives step-by-step instructions for a smooth, rich sauce that will taste great with any meat.
It also includes variations for different roasts, like adding some cider for pork gravy, wine for beef and sage leaves for chicken.

SWITCH AND SAVE: There are plenty of alternatives to the big-name brand that come at a cheaper price.
The classic Bisto gravy granules (300g) are £4 at Sainsbury’s, so £1.33 per 100g.
But the supermarket’s own best-value gravy granules cost 85p for 170g — 83p per 100g cheaper than Bisto.
And a 300g tub of Quixo For Meat granules at Aldi is among the cheapest at £1.09, 97p per 100g less than the big-name brand.
