‘Family Guy’ ribs college admissions scandal in Emmy ad campaign

“Family Guy” has “earned” the right to take a tongue-in-cheek bite out of the college admissions scandal.

Well, perhaps that’s debatable — but it doesn’t make the show’s 2019 Emmys “For Your Consideration” campaign any less wickedly humorous.

The new viral ad for Seth MacFarlane’s long-running animated hit features the cartoon heads of “Family Guy” characters Stewie, Lois, Meg, Peter and Brian, all Photoshopped over the faces of a row crew.

“For Your Emmy Consideration: We’ve earned this. Family Guy Class of 2019.,” the meme reads in the University of Southern California’s signature font and colors.

The campaign is an obvious reference to actress Lori Loughlin, 54, and her husband, Mossimo Giannulli, 55, who are accused of paying college prep adviser William “Rick” Singer $500,000 to bribe their two daughters’ way into the University of Southern California as bogus crew recruits.

They face up to 40 years behind bars.

In April, Loughlin and Giannulli pleaded not guilty to charges of conspiracy to commit mail and wire fraud and conspiracy to commit money laundering. So far, 13 have pleaded guilty to the scam — including “When They See Us” star Felicity Huffman

This parody is the latest in a decade-long “Family Guy” Emmy campaign tradition.

The series was a staple in the animated Emmy categories between 2000 and 2008, but in 2009 producers made the “bold choice” to take it out of consideration in the top animated category to compete in the comedy series field instead, Deadline reports. “Family Guy” became the only animated show besides “The Flintstones” to land an Outstanding Comedy Series nomination.

Alas, the ensuing seven years have seen an Emmy Award dry spell for the series. The “Family Guy” crew will find out if its latest viral campaign pans out when 2019 nominations are announced July 16.
