Love on the high seas! Bride and groom throw a swashbuckling PIRATE-themed wedding complete with swords and a gun salute

A bride and groom threw a spectacular pirate-themed wedding complete with vintage clothing, swords and guns.

Sarah Kirsty Page, 28, and Wayne Mark Truman, 43, tied the knot in the gardens of Matlock Bath Mutiny festival in Matlock, Derbyshire.

The couple and their hundreds of guests dressed in full pirate apparel including hats, feathers and lashings of lace – although the bride stuck to traditional white.

Wayne, who popped the question two years ago, said their unusual nuptials were inspired by Sarah’s love of the Pirates of the Caribbean and his ‘resemblance’ to protagonist Jack Sparrow.

He said: ‘On the wedding set there was a huge ships wheel and I was dressed in 17th century style clothing, even the pastor was dressed in pirate garb with a long dark Victorian coat.

‘There was hundreds of pirates everywhere and people were letting off guns. They even gave us an archway of swords for us to walk through.

‘There was masses beer all over the place but nothing got out of hand and there were no mishaps.

The couple provided a selection of activities including hook-a-duck, bouncy ships, rides and stalls selling clothes to entertain their guests throughout the celebration and Mutiny festival

Wayne revealed the festival is for everyone and continued whilst the couple took a break for their reception at the The Fishpond Freehouse. The couple tied the knot in Derbyshire on 4 August

He said: ‘I’m 43-years-old and I didn’t think I would get married – it’s a big deal for me. 

‘It’s the last day of the festival today so we can get on enjoying ourselves at the festival.

‘We have hook-a-duck, bouncy ships, rides, stalls selling clothes and jewellery, hog roasts, cider and live music.

‘The festival is for everyone – it carried on as we took a break to have our reception.

‘It’s hard to say how I’m feel as I’ve never been married before. But I’m just happy and ecstatic.

The Matlock Bath Mutiny festival, where the couple were engaged and married in Derbyshire on 4 August, has grown from a few pirates to hundred turning up each year

The couple had 50 friends and family in attendance of their wedding in addition to Matlock Bath Mutiny festival goers, held in Derbyshire on 4 August

The newlyweds declared their commitment to each other with ‘Arr Do’ during their 40 minute ceremony before heading onto The Fishpond Freehouse, River Derwent where they were joined by 50 family members and friends for their reception.

Speaking about their love of costumes, Sarah said: ‘I could not have asked for a better wedding day, it was absolutely amazing, I really can’t put it into words.

‘I met Wayne at a Comic Con at Birmingham’s NEC three years ago, my thing was Cos Play as Disney Princesses.

‘But I’m a big Pirates of the Caribbean fan so I was more than happy to go along with the theme.

‘The wedding was part of the pirate festival which is in its fourth year, it’s grown from just a few pirates to hundreds turning up – it’s a great day.’
