Boris Johnson bizarre speech discussing Peppa Pig World has been revealed as the nation’s funniest moment of the year, according to new research from Beano.

More than a third of Brits found the moment of the Prime Minster described his trip to the Hampshire theme park as the most side-splitting moment of 2021 – with the photos of him riding fairground rides and in toy cars also tickling funny bones up and down the country.

The US attorney unable to remove the cat filter on his Zoom call came in close second place, in a poll of British parents by the British comic.

Rounding off the top three is the Caterpillar Cake Wars on social media, when supermarket Marks and Spencer took a lawsuit to Aldi over the similarity of Aldi’s Cuthbert the Caterpillar cake to M&S’s Colin – with fellow supermarkets at the public leaping to the cake’s defence with #FreeCuthbert trending.

Other hilarious moments from the Top 20 included The Suez Canal blockage, Miriam Margolyes’ farting on This Morning, and ‘Phil McCann’ reporting on the fuel shortage at a petrol station forecourt for the BBC.

Here, FEMAIL reveal Beano’s most hilarious moments of the year, from Jackie Weaver’s viral fame to Kim Kardashian’s Met Gala outfit…

1. Boris Johnson bizarre Peppa Pig World speech to business leaders

In November, senior figures inside No10 raised concerns about the Prime Minister after a bizarre speech to business chiefs in which he praised Peppa Pig World, compared himself to Moses and made car engine noises.

The Prime Minister was forced to shrug off questions about whether he is ‘OK’ following the bewildering address to the CBI, in which he spoke at length about his family trip to the popular theme park – complaining that the TV character looks like a ‘hair dryer’ and that Daddy Pig is a bit stereotyped.

Mr Johnson also stunned bemused onlookers as he attempted an impression of a car engine as he extolled the virtues of Tesla cars, saying they are faster at accelerating from traffic lights than Ferraris.

Pictures have emerged of Mr Johnson, wife Carrie and son Wilf at Peppa Pig World in the New Forest

He invoked the Moses comparison by suggesting he had descended from ‘Mount Sinai’ to hand civil servants his 10-point plan for achieving Net Zero by 2050.

After the shambolic performance, a senior Downing Street figure told the BBC: ‘There is a lot of concern inside the building about the PM….It’s just not working.

‘Cabinet needs to wake up and demand serious changes otherwise it’ll keep getting worse. If they don’t insist, he just won’t do anything about it.’

2. US lawyer’s Zoom call where he was unable to remove the cat filter

A Texas lawyer accidentally left a kitten filter on during a Zoom hearing in February, hilariously telling the judge ‘I’m not a cat’ as he frantically tried to remove the animated image.

The amusing mishap happened to Presidio County attorney Rod Ponton during a live streamed hearing for the 394th Judicial District Court of Brewster.

The video begins with presiding judge Roy Ferguson telling Ponton: ‘I believe you have a filter turned on in video settings and you might want to turn it off.’

Ponton is then heard letting out a panicked ‘aghh’, as the cat filter over his face begins shifting its eyes back-and-forth and moving its mouth in unison with his voice.

‘Can you hear me judge,’ the feline-emblazoned Ponto is heard asking, his voice quivering.

Ferguson confirms that he can hear Ponton and reiterates that he believes he has a filter switched on.

‘It is [a filter]’, Ponton hastily interjects. ‘And I don’t know how to remove it. I’ve got my assistant here, she’s trying to, but ahhh I’m prepared to go forward with it… I’m here live, I’m not a cat.’

3. Colin the Caterpillar wars on social media

In May, Twitter users went wild over the news that Marks & Spencer was suing Aldi over a copycat version of their £7 Colin the Caterpillar cake – and shared hilarious memes to poke fun at the decision.

The grocery giant claimed Aldi was ‘riding on the coat-tails’ of its reputation and launched an intellectual property claim with the High Court.

And since the news broke, social media users have rejoiced with #CaterpillarWars and #FreeCuthbert trending.

Morrisons also joined the trend joking their cake Morris was in disguise to not get caught

One Twitter user joked that Netflix would be making a documentary about the trial of the cakes

Some have joked other supermarket’s caterpillar cakes – such as Sainsbury’s Wiggles for £6 and Tesco Curly the Caterpillar – will form a jury to help.

Some joked that M&S new ‘cake in the jar’ in the Colin variety was ‘sent to Cuthbert as a warning’

Others have used the meme made popular by Harry’s and Meghan’s Oprah interview, asking the cakes if they were ‘silent or silenced’

4. ‘Phil McCann’ reporting on the fuel shortage at a forecourt for BBC

Electric car owners flooded the internet with memes teasing petrol and diesel drivers about their battle for fuel in September.

5.  Jackie Weaver and the Handforth Parish Council Zoom

It’s not often that a seven-minute edited highlights package from a parish council meeting soars up the YouTube most-viewed rankings.

But that’s exactly what happened in February when a  December 10th Handforth Parish Council Planning & Environment Committee meeting was uploaded leaving a shocking trail of chaos, power grabs and insults.

As the fine burghers of the east Cheshire village gather for the 7:30pm Zoom call, a male voice chimes in from off-camera. ‘F*** off,’ he says.

Weaver, Cheshire Association of Local Councils, clashes with chairman Brian Tolver who claims he was chucked out of an earlier meeting by her and refuses to accept the meeting’s legitimacy. He is later thrown out again for telling Weaver to ‘stop talking’

The meeting on December 10 is attended by several other councillors (clockwise from top left: Susan Moore, Barry Burkill who is also thrown out, John Smith who takes over as chairman, and Cynthia Samson)

We then meet parish council chairman Brian Tolver and matters don’t improve. His Zoom title, despite being the chairman, is ‘Handforth PC clerk’.

Mrs Weaver said no one could stop Cllr Tolver describing himself as the meeting’s clerk, or indeed anything else. ‘Please refer to me as Britney Spears from now on,’ she adds.

He addresses the meeting’s actual clerk, Jackie Weaver, drafted in from the peacekeeping corps of the Cheshire Association of Local Councils. ‘Can we be assured that we won’t be thrown out of the meeting like we were last time?’ he says, leaning towards the camera and sucking his teeth for emphasis.

‘As long as we have reasonable behaviour from everyone,’ Mrs Weaver replies.

A reasonable request, perhaps. But Cllr Tolver is an independent councillor in more than just name.

Quickly it descends into chaos,  as Mrs Weaver attempts to regain calm. ‘If you disrupt this meeting, I will have to remove you from it,’ she says,

‘You can’t! It is only the chairman who can remove people from a meeting,’ the chairman, who was removed from the previous meeting, cries. ‘You have no authority here, Jackie Weaver! NO AUTHORITY AT ALL!’

6. The tweets after the great Facebook outage

‘Hello literally everyone’ was the tongue-in-cheek message from Twitter sent in October as it took a lighthearted approach to its rival Facebook suffering a worldwide outage.

Facebook, along with its sister site Instagram and messaging service WhatsApp were down for six hours for millions of users across the world.

Social media users meanwhile flocked to Twitter to share memes about Facebook being down.

One shared a picture of Pixar superhero Mr Incredible saying ‘It’s showtime’ with the caption: ‘When most social media apps are down, Twitter be like…’

Another, carrying on the theme, used a clip of comedy character Mr Bean, representing Twitter, alongside another character wrapped head-to-toe in bandages, representing Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp.

Days into the saga, and with no quick solution apparent, Twitter users decided the vessel was the perfect encapsulation of the past two years.

One of the most shared photographs was taken from a ship following the Ever Given, and showed it blocking the canal. ‘A pangolin fluttering their eyelashes at a bat,’ read the caption above the Ever Given, while the text on the blocked vessel said: ‘Any hope of enjoying 2020’

One amusing post, using the picture of Marshall in the goal net, joked that Spider-Man had managed to get him tangled up in his web. Another user mocked up a picture of firemen trying to cut Marshall free.

Another user compared his leap to save the ball to a basketball player trying to stop Michael Jordan scoring a slam-dunk. A similar sporting comparison saw someone else photoshop Marshal leaping over the finish line ahead of Usain Bolt in a 100m race.

Gwyneth told podcast hosts Jason Bateman, Sean Hayes, and Will Arnett that she has ‘been on a bit of a clean-out’ after forming some unhealthy habits during the pandemic.
